Living in a society where rejection and uncertainty prevails, it is often easier to maintain a cynical disposition to life. However, in my view, the conscious efforts to choosing optimism, “the quality of being full of hope, a belief that something good will happen” in all facets of our being, in the long run, forms part of our behavior/ identity and guides our path as we traverse through life.
My current body of art titled “A look on the Bright Side”, was largely inspired by pop art and editorial images observed on social media. The recurring theme for each piece was optimism, which was illustrated through a predominant female portrait view. Their bodies were painted with black acrylic medium on canvas, a personal choice to highlight each charterers’ unique appearance, persona, mood and hairstyle. Also, the colorful solid planed shapes and textures on each face were carefully chosen to complement one another. This was aimed at creating a myriad of emotions to mesmerize and encourage my audience to demonstrate a more confident outlook and persistence when dealing with challenges.
Overall, my goal was to create exciting pieces to project optimism I’d wish we could adopt more of in our daily living. The more we begin to channel more of our energy towards positivity, and view optimism as our personal responsibility, not driven by anything or anyone else, only then can we build stronger versions of ourselves.
